Working Out During Your Menstruating Days?

Periods

6 Things To Remember

Periods are a time of trouble for all. Neither the body nor the mind is willing to crawl out of the comfy bed. But working out is a routine and one tries to maintain it despite this monthly horror. Here are a few reasons why you should hit the gym during those days. It’s all for your benefit!

The Type Of Exercise You Choose During These Days Do Matter

You have our respect for even wanting to hit the gym during these days. But before you get started on your daily routine, here is something you should keep in mind. Your daily routine is suited for normal days. On these few days, with all the cramps and what not, you must be careful to choose what you work on. High-intensity exercises are more beneficial now because they release endorphins. Endorphin can help you avoid prostaglandins – the chemicals which cause inflammation, pain and even fever. These are connected to your period pains as well. So, yay for endorphins, nay for prostaglandins!
Not just endorphins, your sex hormones are helpful during this time too. No, not for sex! Estrogen and progesterone levels are lower during periods, making carbs and glycogen more readily available. Hence, you can push your body further than the usual and get the best out of your routine.

Cardio Over Strength Training

Looking to alleviate your PMS symptoms? Focus on the treadmill, not the barbell. Studies says the more you practice aerobic exercises, the less you suffer from PMS.
Also, since our temperature is lower than normal, we can work longer and harder before being exhausted. So, leave the strength training for the next week and go for that sprint!

Workouts Don’t Lighten The Flow Immediately

If you continue moderate but regular exercise each month, eventually your heavier days will feel lighter. But that is a long-term commitment. The lining of your uterus which consists your discharge is thicker in people who have more body fat. As you exercise and keep fit, eventually the extra fat will reduce along with the lining. This will lighten your flow.
